SOCIETY HISTORY

Jadhavaji Education Society is a pioneer educational institution in the border area of Karnataka and Maharshtra is celebrating its centenary this year i.e. 2018-19 inspired by Lokmanya Tilak visit in the year 1917. Five young men and teachers in the real sense, Shri Appu Master Jere, Shri Venkatrao Joshi, Kokatnur Tamma Master and Govindrao Deshpande dare to establish the school in the year 1918 to begin with 30 students on the role and now in 2018 our society has stretched its feathers in large scale and today we have education facilities from KG to PG with strength of 6000 students supported by 300 teachers.

Initially the school was started in Nippanikar Wada and then shifted to Odhavaji Bhate’s Jinning Factory and it was named as Anglo Vernacular School under the banner of Athani Education Society.

Shri Odhavaji Bhate an industrialist and Philanthropist volunteered to construct suitable building for the school. And in 1924 the present beautiful monumental building came in to existence. This magnificent architectural beauty resembling a flying eagle which was built on a land leased by late Shri Kalappa Badiger in the year 1924. This building was donated by late Shri Odhavaji Bhate in the memory of his younger brother late Shri Jadhavaji Anandji Bhate. Here after the school was named as Jadhavaji Anandji High School and society was named as jadhavaji Anandji Education Society.

Catering to the needs of society at large to encourage the girl students and to provide independent school for girls exclusively a separate school was started in 1961 by the education minister Smt Grace Thakkar. Initially school was started in a rented building of our founder chairman late Shri Raghavendrarao Annaji Kulkarni (Hulagabali) then it was move to an independent our own building constructed on the land donated by late Shri D. B. Pawar Desai in 1984. This new building was inaugurated by Smt. Ushatai Gogate and Shri B. M. Gogate famous industrialist of Belagavi in this auspicious occasion vice president of our society late Shri K. D. Sangoram (Babasaheb) came forward to donate Rs. 51,000 in the name of his wife late Smt. Kamalabai Krishanaji Sangoram and hence the building is named after Smt. Kamalabai Krishnaji Sangoram building.

“To catch them young to cultivate good habits to the children’s” is a famous saying so to provide Sanskara, cultural values, ethics and moral values to the toddles. J. A. Balavadi came to existence and was inaugurated by the then education minister Shri S. R. Kanti in the year 1962. Subsequently to honor the donation received from Smt. Kamalabai Kathawate the school was named as Kamalabai Kathawate Balawadi.

After SSLC what? This was the question before the students of this rural area. Under the leadership and guidance of late Shri D. B. Pawar Desai the management took initiation in bringing forth J. A. Entrance College in the year 1965-66. As per the new policy of the government two year Pre University Course came in to existence in the year 1971-72 and J. A. Entrance College was renamed as J. A. Composite P. U. College. The J. A. P. U. College got its own building in the year 2001 built with the help of munificent donation from Smt. Sudha Murthy, chief trustee Infosys foundation Bangalore, In memory of her father late Dr. R. H. Kulkarni who was our past student. In honor of this donation the building was named as Dr. R. H. Kulkarni block.

One significant point to note that the whole staff of J. E. Society came forward to join hands in the society venture and donated their one month salary for the construction of the college building “Hat’s off to the staff.”

Now the society was in need of building for the library late Shri Vasantrao S Deshpande Retd. Head Master and member of our society came forward to help the society and with the help of his donation the library building was built and it was named after Taramai and Annarao Deshpande Granthalaya. This Granthalaya was inaugurated by none other than Retd. K. U. D. Librarian Shri K. S. Deshpande.

At J. A. High School we had the provision of imparting education from 5th standard onwards students enrolling for the 5th standard use to take their education from 1 to 4th standard at surrounding schools. To provide sound foundation for basic education from 1 to 4th society though of opening a lower primary school in the year 1985. Hence in 1986 J. A. Lower Primary Scholl was opened which was inaugurated at the auspicious hands of Shri Shri 1008 Vishwesh Tirth Swamiji of Pejawar Math Udupi initially stated with 1st standard with an intake of 50 students subsequently it was elevated up to 4th standard. As there was great demand from the students (Parents) to admit to our lower primary school we were compel to start another four additional classes from 1 to 4th standard in the year 1993. To our great satisfaction government education department started grant in aid from the year 1995. At present we have four aided and four unaided primary classes and the strength of the lower primary school is more than 500.

To accommodate more than 500 students in primary school new class rooms were needed. Members of the Shri Venkatesh Jere family i.e. all brothers and sisters are our students. They all together in the leadership of Shri Mukund Jere came forward and donated nearly 8 lacks so a new complex was built having 22 shops at the outer side opposite court and 13 class rooms at the interior side of the premises. Shopping complex and class rooms were inaugurated at the auspicious hands of Shri Shri Chidrupanand Swamiji of Arsha Vidyapeeth. In gratitude of the donation by Jere family the J. A. Lower Primary School was named as Venkatesh Jere Lower Primary School.
